David M. Labor
David M. Labor, 61, of Barmore Avenue, Grove City, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunda at the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home, where he was a resident since an illness in May.
Born in Grove City, Sept. 12, 1949, he was the son of William C. “Bill” Labor and Roberta A. “Bertie” Hodge Labor.
Dave retired in February from the Grove City School District, where he was a janitor for 28 years. He coached track for many years at Grove City High School until 1993. In 1994, he became an assistant track coach at Slippery Rock University, working with both the men's and women's track teams until 2010.
He enjoyed coaching and working with the young people he mentored.
Mr. Labor was a Catholic.
Dave was a graduate of Grove City High School, Class of 1967.
He served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine in the South Pacific during the Vietnam War, serving from October 1969 until November 1978.
Surviving are two daughters, Kelly Labor and her husband, Thomas C. Horsefield, and Heather Gills and her husband, Dave, all of Slippery Rock; three grandchildren, Nick, Emma and Joshua Gills, all of Slippery Rock; and his father, William C. “Bill” Labor, of Slippery Rock.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta A. “Bertie” Labor, who died in 2008.
<B>LABOR </B>— Funeral services for David M. Labor, who died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, will be at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township, Mercer County.
