Dahlkemper likely won't seek old seat next year
ERIE — Former U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper most likely will not seek the 3rd Congressional District seat next year.
Tina Mengine, Dalhkemper’s former campaign manager, said the chances of the Erie Democrat running for the seat are slim.
“She has not ruled it out completely, but it is highly unlikely,” Mengine said.
Dahlkemper held the seat from 2008 to 2010. She was defeated by Republican Mike Kelly of Butler.
Much of the decision came from the possibility of redistricting and the uncertainty surrounding it. Mengine said Dahlkemper is unsure if the district will be modified and how much it will affect the district.
Mengine also said there is a strong anti-incumbent feeling among voters. She said that it is likely that Dahlkemper still will be viewed as an incumbent even though she no longer is in office.
“This doesn’t look like the right time,” Mengine said.
