Birthday bucket list

Happy birthday to me.

I’m turning 54 this weekend and still have so many things I dream of doing in the world of sports.

So here it is, my sports bucket list as my hair thins and my belly thickens:

• Take a week-long baseball tour of major league and minor league games. How many games could I get to in how many different places in a week? It’d be a blast.

• Bowl a perfect game into the 10th frame. I’ve never taken one past the sixth frame. I don’t even have to wind up getting the 300 — I just want to experience the pressure and feeling of going for it.

• Sink a hole-in-one, a shot for eagle or shoot below 80 for 18 holes. I’d gladly take any of them. I’m a terrible golfer.

• See a football game at Notre Dame. My brother has done it, a buddy of mine works there and they say the atmosphere is incredible.

• Participate in a Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Camp. They do it every January in Bradenton, Fla., and it’d be the thrill of a lifetime.

Stepping into the batter’s box against a Steve Blass, Bob Friend, Doug Drabek, John Candelaria, whoever ... bring it on.

• See a major league game at Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. Matt Clement actually got to play at both places. Cool thing is, he recognizes how fortunate he was to do so.

• Catch a foul ball at PNC Park. Sid Bream, Mike LaValliere and Tony Womack hit me foul balls at Three Rivers Stadium and I caught a Jeff Cirillo home run ball there, but nothing as of yet in the new place.

Fans can scramble for the hot dogs and T-shirts all they want. I want the baseball.

• Go to a Super Bowl site the weekend of the game. No need for a game ticket — though I wouldn’t turn it down — just taking in the atmosphere would be enough.

The parties, the celebrities that would be on hand ... Just hitting Media Day that week would provide memories to last a lifetime.

• Attend a Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton. I’ve been to the place a few times, but never when the historic action is going on.

• Attend a Wrestlemania. It has to be experiencing the entire weekend. What can I say? I’ve been a big fan my entire life.

My bucket isn’t entirely empty at present. I’ve already held the Stanley Cup, saw a kid get drafted into the NFL, covered a U.S. Women’s Open 18-hole playoff, been to a world title boxing match, covered an NCAA basketball regional final, was in the pressbox for Mike Schmidt’s 500th home run, in the stands for the first night game in World Series history and on the sidelines when the Steelers won an AFC championship.

Oh, yeah, I’ve gotten to interview Hank Aaron, George Blanda and Willie Stargell one-on-one, too.

Life’s not all that bad, ya’ know?
