NEW SEWICKLEY TWP, Beaver County — A Butler County man was killed late Monday night when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a traffic warning sign on Glen Eden Road near the Beaver-Butler County line.

Phillip A. Masterson, 36, of Cranberry Township died at UPMC Passavant Cranberry where he was taken following the crash about 10:13 p.m.

An emergency room physician pronounced Masterson dead at 11:43 p.m. He died of severe injuries to the head, neck and chest, said Butler County Deputy Coroner Dennis Trzeciak.

New Sewickley police are investigating the crash.

Police said Masterson was eastbound on Glen Eden Road about a half-mile west of the New Sewickley Township-Cranberry Township border when he lost control of his cycle going around a curve.

His cycle went off the road to the right and slammed into a state Department of Transportation lane alignment sign, police said.

Masterson was thrown off the cycle and landed in a farm field.

Harmony Ambulance was called after Masterson was found injured and bleeding near his wrecked bike, authorities said.

Big Knob Volunteer Fire Department assisted police. The road was closed until about 2 a.m. today.

No autopsy is planned.
