SPRINGFIELD TWP, Mercer County — A baby and a man are dead after an SUV and a car collided Friday evening in the northbound lane of Interstate 79.

State police still are investigating the cause of the 6:55 p.m. crash that killed Troy Hallam, 34, of Carnegie and a 22-month-old child in his SUV.

Jennifer Hallam, 29, a passenger in that vehicle, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, for treatment of unknown injuries.

She was in stable condition Saturday morning.

The driver of the car, Matthew Cherpak, 24, of Pittsburgh and his passenger Nicole Barker, 24, of Cranberry Township, were not injured, according to a report by state police.

No other information was available.
