PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania judge has reversed himself and decided a boy who was just 11 at the time should be tried in juvenile court on charges he murdered his father’s pregnant fiance in February 2009.

The public defender for Jordan Brown, who turns 14 next week, and state prosecutors say a Lawrence County judge moved the case to juvenile court on Tuesday.

The Superior Court ordered Motto to reconsider last year’s ruling that Brown should be tried as an adult. The appeals court agreed with defense attorneys that Motto wrongly based his decision on the boy’s alleged “lack of remorse,” saying that violates Brown’s right against self-incrimination.

Brown faced up to a life sentence if convicted as an adult, but now faces court jurisdiction no longer than his 21st birthday if convicted.
