PITTSBURGH — Producers of the Batman sequel “The Dark Knight Rises” have paid to replace about two dozen leafy trees removed from the streets of Pittsburgh so scenes shot earlier this month would look like they occurred in the dead of winter.

Producers paid “tens of thousands of dollars” to remove the trees and donate $20,000 to the nonprofit preservation group Tree Pittsburgh.

The city allowed the producers to remove more than 20 trees that were damaged, diseased or had grown big enough to hinder pedestrians or become a hazard near some intersections.
