Siegel leads BlueSox to win

Freeport High School product Ryan Siegel went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three batted in to lead the Butler BlueSox to an 8-6 win at Lorain County (Ohio) in Prospect League baseball play Thursday.

Butler High graduate Zac Sessa earned the win on the mound, allowing five runs — two earned — on 12 hits in 6 1-3 innings pitched.

Brian Thompson hurled a scoreless ninth for the save.

The victory boosts Butler’s record above .500 (13-12) and keeps the team in contention for the East Division’s second-half title along with Slippery Rock (15-10).

The BlueSox are currently two games back of the Sliders with two games left to play. Butler must win its final two games and receive help in the form of back-to-back losses from Slippery Rock to make the Prospect League playoffs.
