LATROBE — Pittsburgh wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is out at for at least two weeks following surgery on his left foot.

The second-year wideout underwent the procedure Monday. He wore a walking boot and walked on crutches during practice Tuesday.

Sanders broke his right foot in the team's loss to Green Bay in the Super Bowl then had surgery on his left foot in the spring. He arrived at camp last week ready to go before experiencing discomfort in his left foot. Sanders says Monday's procedure was done to help speed up the healing process.

Sanders caught 28 passes a year ago and was penciled in as the team's third wide receiver behind Hines Ward and Mike Wallace. Antonio Brown and Limas Sweed will fill in while Sanders recuperates.

NEWPORT, R.I. — The Big East is still considering expansion as it prepares to negotiate a television rights deal that Commissioner John Marinatto called the most important in its history.The conference will add TCU as its ninth football member, and 17th member overall, in the fall of 2012. The move gives the Big East another huge television market, along with New York, Philadelphia and Chicago, but could further complicate the relationship between the schools that play football and those that don't. The football members would like to add another school, but that choice has to appease the basketball members, too.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler has had hip surgery, the team said on Tuesday.The Selke Trophy winner is expected to make a full recovery in 10 to 12 weeks.Kesler had a career-high 41 goals and added 32 assists in 82 games with the Canucks, who lost to the Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals. In 25 playoff games, he added seven goals and 12 assists.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver will appeal the six-game suspension he drew Tuesday from Major League Baseball for throwing a pitch over the head of Detroit’s Alex Avila last weekend.
