BLAWNOX — Brett Rinker of Slippery Rock defeated Tommy Nettles 4 and 2 in the final match of the CR Miller Match Play Invitational, which was held at the Pittsburgh Field Club Sunday.
After a rain-delayed reschedule of the match from last week, Rinker had to capture all four 18-hole matches to reach the final round.
CRANBERRY TWP — Dennis Munko of Birdsfoot Golf Club and Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club finished in an eight-way tie for 10th place at the Cranberry Highlands Open Monday.Both players carded a 69 while Denny Dolci of St. Jude Golf Club tied for 18th (70), John Aubrey of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred and Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf & Country Club tied for 23rd and amateur Rob Voltz tied for 37th (72).Munko's score also tied him for third in the match-play qualifier while amateur Jimmy Brahm of the Butler Country Club tied for 15th (74).
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Grove City's Zach Nesbit won the 2011 Oakview Golf Club Championship last weekend with a 2-over-par 69-73—142.Rob Voltz was second (69-75—144) while Rob Shakely (76-72) and Jeremy Plaisted (72-76) tied for third with a 148.<B>
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Butler native master Robert Zang, a sixth-degree black belt and owner of Zang TaeKwon-Do in Wexford, captured first place in sparring and was the overall Grand Champion in sparring at the recent ITO Fight for Cancer International Open Karate Championship.Other wins for the school included Edward Horan, second in breaking, second in forms and third in sparring and Matthew Marshall and George Shirk IV, each second in sparring in their respective adult divisions.Julian Psilos was first in forms and third in sparring and Joshua Horan was third in forms.Zang TaeKwon-Do will be hosting an invitational tournament on Nov. 5.
