GROVE CITY — Grove City Country Club has been selected by the United States Golf Association to host a U.S. Amateur qualifier Aug. 1.

Some of the finest amateurs in the area, and several from around the country, will be competing for a berth in the U.S. National Amateur in Wisconsin.

Tee times are at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the 36-hole qualifier. The event is open to the public with no charge.

DeCola wraps up 3-week road tourCenter Township resident Marissa DeCola wrapped up a three-week road tour at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Golf Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club (Ill.).The Butler High School student missed the cut by one stroke after firing a 74-81-155 in the first two rounds on Monday and Tuesday.Previously, DeCola advanced to the third round of match play at the WWGA National Junior Championship in Flossmoor, Ill. on July 11-14 following an eighth-place finish in qualifying.She also claimed a tie for 16th at the Bubba Conlee Junior National Tournament at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Bartlett, Tenn. from July 6-8. DeCola carded an 81-76-75-232 to finish 15 strokes behind the champion.

Butler youth wins golf tourneyLOWER BURRELL — James Ellis, 11 of Butler carded an 82 to capture his age division at the recent U.S. Kids Golf Tournament at Hillcrest Country Club.

Judge rejects Dodger proposalDOVER, Del. — A Delaware judge rejected the Los Angeles Dodgers’ proposed $150 million bankruptcy financing plan, directing the team to instead negotiate a loan deal with Major League Baseball.Judge Kevin Gross said in an eight-page order that the team had failed to show that the terms of its secured financing with hedge fund Highbridge Capital were fair.
