MORRISTOWN, N.J. — An extradition hearing for the New Jersey man charged with killing his father and stepmother in Brady Township was canceled this morning when an apparent electrical fire broke out in the Morris County Courthouse.

The courthouse was evacuated and surrounding streets were shut down as firefighters responded to the building.

Authorities reported there was an electrical outage in the area about 6:30 a.m.

Court workers were still prevented from returning to the building as of 11:30 a.m., said Jeffrey S. Paul of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

Paul did not immediately know when Colin Abbott's extradition hearing would be held. It had been set for 9:30 a.m.

State police last week charged Abbott, 40, of Randolph, N.J., with two counts of homicide in the deaths of 65-year-old Kenneth Abbott and 55-year-old Celeste Abbott.
