CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Campers at the Buttercup Campground on Route 68 still are cleaning up from Monday afternoon's storm that streaked through the township, snapping trees and utility lines.

No one was injured in the storm at the campground, which has more than 240 seasonal RV campers.

Ed Tanski, campground owner, said two campers were trapped in their RVs Monday.

"One was a lady who depends on oxygen, so we ran to her and got her out right away," Tanski said.

The other woman had to wait for rescuers made up of other campers to cut up a large tree that had fallen across her RV.

Tuesday afternoon tree service crews continued to cut limbs and trunks, either chipping the wood into mulch or cutting and stacking it for firewood use.

Vern Davis of Verona waited for crews to work on his RV that now had a noticeably twisted frame. Across the campground road from Davis's RV is a minivan that had the metal skin peeled to expose the framework inside.

Perhaps the luckiest of all campers is Doug and Jennifer Bishop's 7-year-old son.

"He was sitting on the couch (Monday) when the wind started blowing," Jennifer Bishop said Tuesday. "We were arguing about what to watch on television. He wanted cartoons. I didn't.

"Just then I heard cracking, and I yanked him off the couch to me just as this limb came through the roof, punched into the couch, picking it up and moving over a couple of feet," she said.
