Empty prison pod set to open in August
One of three idle inmate pods in the Butler County Prison should be open by the end of August.
The county prison board this morning approved making a seventh pod operational, which will include switching 12 part-time correction officers to full-time.
Warden Rich Gigliotti said the space is needed because of growth among the prison's general inmate population and not wanting to turn away state inmates.
The seventh pod is on the third floor of the prison.
