BlueSox score road victory
Stephen Vranka singled and homered and Matt Berezo added a single, triple and RBI to lead the Butler BlueSox to a 4-2 triumph over the host West Virginia Miners in Prospect League play Thursday.
Colin Harrington added two hits for Butler (2-1) while Brad Duffy picked up the win and Julian Diaz tossed the final 3Z\c innings for the save.
Butler used a three-run fifth inning to open the scoring and used an insurance run in the eighth inning to close out the scoring.
Alex De La Rosa had a double, two singles and a stolen base and Sam Frost a single and RBI for the Miners (1-2), who captured the Eastern Division first-half title last week.
• The Slippery Rock Sliders dropped a doubleheader to the visiting Chillicothe Paints, 2-1 in the opener and 5-2 in the nightcap.
In the latter game, Drew Dosch homered, singled and drove in two runs for the Paints (2-2), who also received a double and two singles apiece by Paul Snieder and Andrew Ciennik and a double and RBI by Mitchell Broughton.
Jon Capasso led the Sliders (1-2) with a single, double and RBI. Kyle Brown added a double.
In the opener, the Paints tallied a run in the top of the seventh inning to eke out a 2-1 victory.
Ian Nielsen homered for Chillicothe while Alex Cillo, who earned a save in game 2, picked up the win in relief and Snieder earned the save.
Trent Wooldridge had a double and stole a base and David Leon added two singles for Slippery Rock.
