Slippery Rock man injured in motorcycle crash

CLAY TWP — A Slippery Rock man was hurt this morning when the motorcycle he was driving slammed into the back of a van turning into a Route 8 toy store, authorities said.

David Hunter, no age given, was hurled over the cycle’s handle bars but his body missed hitting the Chevrolet Express van, state police said.

Hunter was not wearing a helmet and appeared to suffer moderate injuries in the crash shortly after 10 a.m.

“But he was lucky,” said Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, “it could have been worse.”

A medical helicopter later flew Hunter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

“It looked like it was mostly road rash,” said Chief Greg Brewster of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, whose company assisted at the scene.

Police said Dwayne D. Nichols, no age given, of Bloomsburg, Columbia County, was driving the van south on Route 8 and had stopped to turn left into the Playthings Etc. store.
