HARRISBURG — Pressed by Gov. Tom Corbett, his fellow Republicans who control the state Legislature have been unable to finalize legislation to spend more taxpayer money to help children attend private schools in Pennsylvania.

Top Senate Republicans said Wednesday that negotiators didn’t have an agreement. As a result, the matter is likely to wait until the fall since senators are leaving Thursday for their traditional two-month break from Harrisburg.

A top Corbett priority is a new law to provide more opportunities for children from low-income families who attend poorly performing schools to attend a different public school, or to attend a private, religious or charter school.
