PITTSBURGH — The flight crew testing a next-generation Boeing jumbo jet made a long trip for a taste of Pittsburgh’s most famous sandwich.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the crew manning a new $300 million 747-8 Freighter jet made the 2,500-mile test flight from outside Seattle to Western Pennsylvania for a Primanti Bros. sandwich.

The jet made the cross-country flight as the aircraft maker wraps up reliability testing with a series of cross-country flights.

Boeing expects to begin delivering the 747-8 Freighter this summer and its passenger sibling to airlines starting in 2012.

Food bank wants Canada geese meatNEW YORK — The director of a Harrisburg food bank says he’d be happy to receive meat from Canada geese culled in New York City to promote aviation safety after geese caught in the engines of a jet forced it to land on the Hudson River.Central Pennsylvania Food Bank executive director Kendall Hanna says the meat is valued by his clientele and moves “very, very quickly.”The goose eradication was authorized after US Airways Flight 1549 made a miraculous landing in the Hudson in 2009 and the passengers and crew members were rescued.
