BlueSox, Sliders post victories

Butler exploded for nine runs on 15 hits in a 9-1 drubbing of host Springfield (Ill.) in Prospect League baseball play Tuesday.

BlueSox star third baseman Shayne Houck went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Jason Radwan also collected three hits for Butler (9-9), while Matt Berezo, Jacob Reese and John Crummy each had two.

Devon Davis pitched the first six innings for the victory, allowing one run on four hits while fanning four batters and walking a pair.

Julian Diaz (two innings) and Brian Thompson (one) finished the game on the mound.

The BlueSox scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the third for a 6-0 edge.

• Heath Horvath scattered eight hits and allowed two runs over six innings to help the Slippery Rock Sliders down the Lorain (Ohio) County Ironmen 4-3 at Jack Critchfield Park.

Horvath fanned four batters and did not issue a walk in picking up the victory.

Steve Sulcoski drove in two runs while David Leon added a triple and James Lundstrom two singles for the Sliders.

Lorain County received a single and home run by Sam Alvis while Zak Blair, Nate Antone and Steel Russell had two singles apiece.
