Williard G. Fullerton
Williard G. Fullerton, 90, of Sarver passed away Wednesday.
He was born in Freeport on March 8, 1921, to Samuel G. and Helen B. (Clowes) Fullerton.
He graduated from Freeport High School in 1939 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary J. Coffman of Sarver, on Aug. 5, 1941.
Mr. Fullerton had been employed by the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge, for 42 years as a design draftsman and air quality control project engineer. He retired in 1983.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 with the 817th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was tank commander of a M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer. During the 19 months that the 817th was in the European theater of operations, he earned four battle stars for campaigns in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe.
In 1957, he moved the family to a farm near Sarver, where he enjoyed farming, gardening and deer hunting.
He was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, a charter and life member of the Sarver Vets Club, a life member of the Saxonburg VFW and an adult leader of the Winfield Sarver 4-H Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, William P. (Jean) Fullerton of Natrona Heights; three sons, Samuel G. (Martha) Fullerton of Granger, Iowa, Daniel L. (Rebecca) Fullerton of Sarver and William C. Fullerton of Lake City, Pa.; a daughter, Sally A. (Fullerton) Rugh of Sarver; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis F., Glenn Mervin and Leroy C.; and a sister, Ruth L. (Fullerton) Irwin.
<B>FULLERTON </B>— Friends of Williard G. Fullerton, who died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, will be received at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St. Saxonburg, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Nuerge officiating.
