BlueSox, Sliders suffer defeats
The Butler BlueSox fell behind early in a 9-5 loss to the host Springfield (Ill.) Sliders in Prospect League baseball action Monday night.
Butler, which trailed 9-1 after three innings, received three singles from Matt Berezo and a single, triple and two runs scored from Brian Lares.
Starter Dane Kaye shouldered the defeat for the BlueSox (8-9) after allowing nine runs on seven hits in two innings pitched.
• Sam Alvis lined an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning that proved to be the difference as Lorain County eked out a 4-3 victory over Slippery Rock at Jack Critchfield Park.
Alvis also homered while Jeff Cola added two doubles and an RBI and Zak Blair a double for the Ironmen (9-8), who scored three runs in the third inning.
The Sliders answered with single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Jon Capasso had a triple and an RBI, Chris Vopinek a single and RBI, Brooks Schneider an RBI and Radley Haddad a double, all for Slippery Rock (5-12).
Spencer Bryant picked up the win in relief while Kevin Jurkatis was charged with the loss.
