Bears take first loss in Erie, 33-7

Five turnovers proved costly Saturday night as the Butler County Bears dropped a 33-7 decision to the Erie Outlaws in Gridiron Football Alliance play in Erie.

The loss was the first of the season for the Bears (2-1), who travel to Youngstown this Saturday to face the Youngstown Steelers.

Butler County looked to score first against Erie when Erik Fuhrer hooked up with fellow Karns City graduate Stephon Conto for a 41-yard pass completion to the Erie 21-yard line.

Two plays later, however, Fuhrer was intercepted and the ball was returned to the Bears’ 2-yard line, setting up the Outlaws’ first score.

Fuhrer threw for 111 yards and scored the Bears’ lone touchdown on a 5-yard run. The score was set up by a blocked punt from Bears linebacker Randall Palakovich.

Conto had 95 yards combined rushing and receiving. He intercepted a pass as well.

The Bears trailed 20-7 at halftime. Erie had a 180-147 advantage in total yardage for the night.
