HERMITAGE — Rob McClellan of the Butler Country Club carded a 70 to finish in a four-way tie for third place at the Tam O’Shanter Open Monday.

McClellan tied with Erik Lundblad of Youghiogheny Country Club, John Mazza of Connoquenessing Country Club and Jim Augustine of Frosty Valley Golf Links.

Ned Weaver of New Castle Golf Club and Ryan Sikora of Pittsburgh Field Club each fired a 69, but Weaver won the playoff by default.

Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club and John Aubrey of Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred both finished in a six-way tie for 13th place while Denny Dolci of St. Jude Golf Club tied for 22nd to lead the local contingent.

In all, 83 golfers finished the tournament.

In the senior event, Aubrey finished fourth and Dolci tied for sixth place.

Butler girl headed to major eventNORRISTOWN — Valerie Stiffy of Butler will be traveling to Athens, Greece to compete in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer games June 24-July 4.Stiffy, who will compete in tennis, is one of 14 athletes from Pennsylvania. She has participated in Special Olympics for 11 years, competing in basketball, bowling, floor hockey, tennis and volleyball.

Smith, Knapp advance in eventBennett Smith of Pittsburgh and Sean Knapp of Oakmont were two of 35 players to advance to the final round of the WPGA Championship, which is being held at the Oakmont Country Club.Smith fired an 8-over par 148 while Knapp, a member of St. Jude Golf Club, fired a 151.David Brown of Pittsburgh is the first-day leader with a 5-over 145.
