SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse standout Amy Halls has been named to the Synapse Sports All-America team.

The SRU junior becomes the first Rock player to earn All-America honors since the lacrosse program was reinstated in 2007. She is SRU's career leader with 169 goals and 198 points.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior center fielder Matt Howard has been named first team All-Atlantic Region.Howard batted .401 with 63 hits, five triples and six home runs this spring.

PINE TWP — The Knoch High School football team recently won the Strongest Team title at the Sons of Thunder Powerlifting's Powerhouse Teen Bench Blast, held at the Pine-Richland Youth Center.Knoch's team consisted of John Whalen, Joe Colonello, Nathan Anuskiewicz, Travis Fogel, Matt Miller, Sam Whalen and Eric Klein.

Slippery Rock University track and field star Chris Warning placed 11th Thursday in the men's hammer throw at the NCAA Division II Championships at California State University.The senior closed his collegiate career with an effort of 58.58 meters.

SAN FRANCISCO — Giants star catcher Buster Posey is likely out for the season with a fractured bone in his lower left leg suffered during a collision at home plate.
