Cass
Well Cass - here is what I quoted from the CBS story:
"On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That's a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush's watch. Katie Couric – CBS News September 29, 2008 12:20 PM.
The Debt increased $4.9 trillion during President Bush's two terms. The Administration has projected the National Debt will soar in Mr. Obama's fourth year in office to nearly $16.5-trillion in 2012. That's more than 100 percent of the value of the nation's economy and $5.9-trillion above what it was his first day on the job."
I guess you want to quibble about the difference between $10 Trillion and the $9.849 trillion quoted in the article. Have at it. It changes nothing - the current President will have doubled the debt in 4 years. It is now at an unsustainable level - in several years the interest payments on this debt will be equal to or greater than the tax receipts taken in bu the IRS - without any spending by government. How long would last if the payments you make over a year's time were for interest only and consumed your entire salary???
On your other statement - I'll chip-in for your one-way ticket out.......... Oh, I've been away, enjoying the fruits of my labors from the last 50 years while you have been trying to figure out how to watch Netflix on my dime...
