2 women hit by car remain hospitalized

FRANKLIN TWP — Two women remain hospitalized today with injuries suffered when a car hit them Tuesday night as they tried to cross Route 422, apparently walking to their nearby home, authorities said.

Erica Smith, 34, and Shannon Shannon, 33, were flown by medical helicopters to Pittsburgh hospitals after the crash around 10:35 p.m.

Emergency rescue workers said both women had head trauma and other injuries. Their conditions were not known this morning.

State police said the driver, Richard E. Bowser, 49, of Renfrew, who was not injured, was eastbound on Route 422 in a 2010 Ford Fusion. The car traveled through a four-way intersection at North Road and Eagle Mill Road and hit Smith and Shannon.

The women live on Golden Lane just several yards away from the intersection, which has a traffic light.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
