HARRISBURG — State police say a 12-year-old central Pennsylvania boy shot by his twin brother as they were playing with guns is now in stable condition.

Trooper Tom Pinkerton, a state police spokesman, told the York Dispatch that the twins were alone in the East Hanover Township home on Saturday evening and apparently playing with a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol and a .357 magnum revolver.

Pinkerton says the .45 caliber pistol discharged at about 6 p.m. Saturday, and a round struck one of the twins in the arm and chest.

He was taken to Hershey Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition but police said he had been upgraded to stable condition Sunday.

State police contacted the boys’ parents and they returned home. The shooting remains under investigation.
