TARENTUM — Two students and a teacher on an aviation field trip are among four people hurt after a small airplane went off the runway of a suburban Pittsburgh airport and over an embankment.

Michael Loughead, assistant superintendent of the Burrell School District, said the teacher and students are from Huston Middle School in Lower Burrell. The crash was at Rock Airport in West Deer Township, in neighboring Allegheny County.

Loughead isn’t releasing the names of those hurt, but says the teacher suffered minor injuries. The students were being taken to emergency rooms, one by helicopter and the other by ambulance.

Allegheny County dispatchers said the crash was reported about 9:45 a.m. today and that a fourth person was hurt. That’s believed to be the pilot.
