STATE COLLEGE — The man who will be the next superintendent of the Grove City School Distict has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

A Clinton County judge today sentenced 48-year-old Richard Mextorf to 15 days of home detention. The Centre Daily Times reports Mextorf also was sentenced to a six-month parole period during which he is forbidden to consume alcohol or enter a liquor store or beer distributorship.

Mextorf was the school superintendent in State College, Centre County, when he was arrested on Nov. 18. The criminal complaint had said his blood-alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit for driving.

He resigned two weeks later.

The Grove City School Board voted last month to hire Mextorf as its next superintendent beginning the 2011-12 academic year.
