PITTSBURGH — The U.S. Justice Department says it won't pursue criminal charges against three Pittsburgh police officers in connection with the beating of a black teenager.

The Justice Department announced Wednesday that it was closing an investigation into the Jan. 12, 2010, beating of 18-year-old Jordan Miles, a violist who attended the city's prestigious Creative and Performing Arts High School.

The Justice Department investigated Miles' claims that the white officers targeted him simply because he was a young black man walking in a high-crime area. But it said that after a careful review it found there was insufficient evidence to prove there was a violation of civil rights statutes.

Miles' attorney, J. Kerrington Lewis, says he's disappointed and thinks a jury needs to hear the case.

UNIONTOWN — Investigators say a southwestern Pennsylvania man made hundreds of lewd phone calls to 911 operators over a two-week span.Uniontown police say 21-year-old Chad Everett Cooper called 911 more than 400 times to ask female dispatchers questions about sex. He was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on 2,700 counts including stalking and harassment.Detective Donald Gmitter says police tracked the calls to Cooper’s cell phone and he admitted placing the calls to the Fayette County 911 center.Cooper was also charged in an unrelated burglary.
