Elderly man not injured after crashing through fence

BUTLER TWP — A 92-year-old man accidentally plowed through a fence and crashed down an embankment after driving to McDonald’s for a cup of coffee.

But John Mahler of Butler Township was not injured in the wreck about 8:30 a.m., authorities said. And surprisingly, his 1990 Cadillac Sedan DeVille escaped with only minor damage.

Township police said Mahler was pulling into the McDonald’s parking lot in the Butler Crossing shopping plaza when he mistakenly stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal.

The car barreled out of control through the fence and down an embankment onto the entry way to the plaza, police said.

No worse for wear, Mahler drove around, parked at the McDonald’s and got his coffee.
