Mars School Board plans special meeting

ADAMS TWP — The Mars School Board has schedule a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Friday to focus on a budget issue.

District solicitor Tom King said this morning that due to an expected funding gap caused by Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed 2011-2012 state budget, the Mars School District may be forced to eliminate an entire program.

King would not name the program, but said it was originally funded by a grant. He said the district now pays for the program.

King said the special meeting is necessary because the district must give 60 days notice to the employees who could be laid off in the elimination of the program.

King also said the school board’s next regular meeting will include a “laundry list” of prospective cuts to bridge the funding gap resulting from the expected state funding cuts.

Both meetings will be in the meeting room adjacent to the primary center.

The Tuesday meeting will start at 7 p.m.
