2 Syrian legislators resign over violence
BEIRUT — Syrian activists say two members of parliament have resigned in protest against the killing of protesters during the uprising against President Bashar Assad.
More than 300 people have been killed in the past five weeks — including more than 75 on Friday.
The death toll continued to rise Saturday as security forces opened fire on funeral processions, killing at least eight people around the country.
The two lawmakers who resigned are from Daraa, a southern region that unleashed the protest movement in mid-March.
Activists in touch with the lawmakers confirmed the resignations.
