SUMMIT TWP — A 17-year-old girl was critically injured this morning when she pulled out of her home’s driveway and into the path of a pickup truck on Saxonburg Road, authorities said.

The full-sized pickup T-boned the driver’s side of the girl’s PT Cruiser shortly after 7 a.m. The front of the car ended up against a utility pole on the east berm of the road.

The girl, who state police did not immediately identify, was unconscious when rescuers got there. Paramedics and emergency medical technicians for East Butler and Butler ambulances performed emergency first aid on her.

Chief Rob McLafferty of the Herman Volunteer Fire Company described the teen’s injuries as life-threatening.

Bad weather prevented a medical helicopter from flying so an ambulance drove the girl to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A trooper investigating the crash said the girl was pulling forward out of her driveway and apparently did not see the southbound Ford F-350 pickup.

The pickup driver, who police identified only as a 30-year-old man from the Butler area, was not injured.

The man said there was nothing he could do to avoid the accident. He said he was on his way to work.
