JACKSON TWP — A subsidiary of Rex Energy plans to build its second natural gas processing facility in Butler County on 71 acres of vacant land off Hartmann Road.

Jackson Township manager Rich Crown said today that Keystone Midstream Services LLC has proposed building a gas extraction processing plant similar to the Sarsen Plant it completed last year off Prospect Road in Forward Township.

The second cryogenic gas processing plant is tentatively to be named the Bluestone Plant.

The Sarsen Plant in Forward, in which the company invested more than $25 million, is capable of processing up to 30 mmcf of gas per day, according to figures released by the company.

The Jackson supervisors will hold a conditional use public hearing on the proposed plant at 7 p.m. May 16 at the township municipal Building, 140 Magill Road.

The township’s planning commission gave its recommendation for conditional use approval in March.

Action on the application may be taken by the supervisors May 19.

The company has already submitted plans that will be reviewed by the planning commission in May, Crown said.

Keystone Midstream also has submitted an operation permit application to the state. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is reviewing that application.

The company hopes to commission the Bluestone Plant in the first quarter of 2012.
