A 38-year-old man was stabbed at least three times and a 22-year-old man was hit by a car during a late Thursday night fight in Butler, authorities said.

The older man from Center Township was in stable condition this morning at a Pittsburgh hospital with stab wounds to the back, city police said.

The younger man from Lyndora was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital and released.

Police did not immediately release their names.

The altercation began about 11:30 p.m. when the two men began arguing at the Butler Amoco/Cigarette Shop at West Jefferson and West Cunningham streets.

The two men continued to argue as they walked toward the Pizza Hut and Huddle Lounge in the 500 block of West Cunningham Street.

“The argument then turned physical,” said Butler police Capt. Ron Fierst.

The younger man stabbed the other man with a folding pocket knife. The older man was stabbed three times in his back and may have been stabbed in his front.

Despite the wounds, Fierst said, the stabbing victim “threw the other man onto the road and into traffic.”

A dark-colored car, possibly a Chevrolet, struck the younger man on the road. Police said an unknown white female was driving the car, which left.

The Butler Ambulance Service and the city fire department assisted the police and helped both men.
