BUTLER TWP — Police have more than one “person of interest” in the Saturday shooting at a Wal-Mart parking lot that left a 21-year-old Clay Township man with a bullet in his back, authorities said.

Investigators have recovered the shooter’s getaway vehicle in or around the Baldwin neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Butler Township police said.

Police want to speak more with the gunshot victim, who is recovering at a Pittsburgh hospital from surgery following the shooting about 7 p.m. Saturday.

A detective briefly interviewed the man, who police have not identified, at the hospital shortly after the shooting.

Police have declined to discuss a motive for the shooting.

The victim and a friend, also from Clay Township, had driven to the parking lot. At some point, the victim got into a sport utility vehicle occupied by three other people believed to be from the Baldwin area.

When the 21-year-old got out of the SUV, the driver apparently shot him with a handgun, said Butler Township police Lt. John Hays.

Witnesses gave police a description of the SUV before it left. The victim he got into his friend’s car, which drove away.

About an hour later, the victim showed up at the Butler Memorial Hospital. Emergency room staff notified police of his gunshot wound.

He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
