Vo-tech looks at personnel cuts

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Vocational-Technical School must redo its 2011-12 budget, and this time personnel cuts are in the mix.

The school’s Joint Operating Committee entered executive session following its public meeting Thursday night to discuss the cuts and personnel reconfigurations which will be made public later, according to Tom Breth, solicitor.

Joe Cunningham, vo-tech director, refused to say how many positions might be lost before consulting with the committee.

The school has 44 employees.

The vo-tech needs to complete its 2011-12 budget before its member school districts complete their own budgets. School budgets must be passed by June 30.

The vo-tech’s initial $4.4 million budget failed to receive five out of seven votes it needed from its member school districts to pass.

Cunningham is expected to offer the vo-tech’s new budget in May. If the operating committee approves that revised budget, Cunningham will present it to the member school boards for their approvals.
