FRANKLIN TWP — Less than seven hours after allegedly holding up a convenience store here Monday afternoon, a 33-year-old Butler man was booked into the Butler County Prison on robbery and other charges.

The crime and the robber’s getaway at the S & S Market on North Road shortly after 4:30 p.m. was caught on store surveillance video, which helped state police get their man.

Troopers on Monday evening arrested Chad Alan Weinschenk.

Police suspect Weinschenk walked into the store and waited until all the customers were gone. At the counter was Daniel Gaurrich, 18, manning the cash register.

The robber kept a hand in his pocket as if he had a gun there. He made a threat to the clerk: “We can either do this the easy way or we can do it my way,” according to store manager Rod Swidzinski.

There was one other employee working, but she was in the kitchen.

Gaurrich handed over the register money, $317.

The suspect left and got into his car. Gaurrich saw the car. So did the security camera.

It didn’t take long for police to track down Weinschenk, who allegedly confessed to the robbery.

District Judge Pete Shaffer arraigned him on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault. He is in the prison on $10,000 bail.
