Mary “Joan” (Broderick) Colonello, 77, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, died peacefully Wednesday surrounded by her family.

Born in Pittsburgh, May 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late George and Aurella (Miller) Broderick.

She also was preceded in death by her brother, George Broderick.

Joan grew up in Lawrenceville and attended Sacred Heart High School.

She was a longtime member of the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Middlesex Township, and she devoted her entire life to her family.

She loved sports and was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan. Joan also enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card clubs over the years. She loved crossword puzzles, bingo and playing slots at the casino.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John E. Colonello, who she married April 26, 1952. She was the beloved mother of John Colonello and his wife, Paula Jean, of Mars, Richard Colonello of Gibsonia, Thomas Colonello and his wife, Kelly, of Phoenix and William Colonello and his wife, Wendy, of Valencia. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, John, Karen, Christopher, Olivia, Rick, David, Joe, Michael and Alex; and five great-grandchildren, Michelle, Leslie, Sophia, Vinny and Mason. She was the sister of Arlene Stephan and her husband, Larry, of Adrian, Mich.; and sister-in-law to Rocco “Pete” Colonello of Valencia. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

<B>COLONELLO</B> — The family of Mary “Joan” (Broderick) Colonello, who died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, will welcome friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.
