'Esther The Musical'

Mary Phillips plays the lead role in “Esther the Musical” being staged Friday and Saturday in Millvale.

MILLVALE — Written by Jeannie Allen of Valencia, “Esther the Musical” is a Broadway-style show now in its fifth production.

The musical features 18 original songs in a variety of styles including jazz, opera, Hebrew, Jamaican and love songs. The story, based on the book of Esther from the Bible, includes drama, dancing, singing and humor.

The cast features Mary Phillips of Baden as Esther, Sam Bartley of Valencia as Mordecai, Jay Toogood of Butler as Haman, Dave Sloboda of Butler as King Xerxes, Davlin Smith of Butler as Haman's wife and a handmaiden and Kathryn Rickenback of the North Hills as a handmaiden, harem girl and soloist.

The cast also includes Carol Jamison of Evans City, and Bob and Linda Norris, Jon George and Brian Louttit, all of Valencia.

Allen serves as the producer and director.

The show will go on at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Mt. Alvernia's Scotus Hall, 129 Hawthorne Road.
