John E. Elder Sr.
John E. Elder Sr., 82, formerly of West Deer Township, died Tuesday.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert, Elmer, Laverne and Bernard Elder; two sisters, Viola Bryner and Ruth Balentine; and a granddaughter, Ashley Elder.
He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Beverley J. (Schmitt) Elder, who he married Jan. 5, 1953; loving father of John E. (Colleen) Elder Jr. of Frazer, Dana E. (James) Petruska of Valencia and Donna L. Elder of Las Vegas, Nev.; and the proud and loving grandfather of Brooks Elder and Jimmy, Greg and David Petruska.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War.
He was a 60-year member of the Local Union 211 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and the VFW Post 9199 in Shaler.
