Howard L. Knox
Howard L. Knox, 86, of Butler passed away Sunday in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Butler, he was a son of the late Alton and Susan Knox, later Susan Smith.
In his youth, Howard pursed Scouting and became an Eagle Scout.
After Butler High School, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with the 36th Infantry Division in Europe, reaching the rank of sergeant. Howard received several commendations including the Purple Heart with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster.
Following the war, he attended Geneva College and the University of Pittsburgh, attaining a degree in business administration. He worked as a cost accountant for Pullman Standard until its closure, and then he was an accountant for Portersville Christian School.
As a young man, Howard became a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, now Community Alliance Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and usher.
His main hobby was model railroading.
Mr. Knox is survived by his wife, Doris Breth Knox, who he married Sept. 1, 1949; a son, Jonathan; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Mark Echard; and two brothers, Walter Lee Knox and Perry Chambers.

North St., Butler, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, with the Rev. Dennis L. Krajacic officiating.
