SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior Shaylee Ianno and freshman Ryan Oglesby were named PSAC West Pitchers of the Week.

Last week, Ianno picked up three softball wins and a save for The Rock (6-2). In the four appearances, she totaled 18 strikeouts and a 0.95 ERA in 22 innings.

Oglesby tossed eight scoreless innings of relief over two games and recorded two baseball wins over West Chester. He struck out six, allowed four hits and didn't issue a walk.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The 12th annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 Basketball All-Star Games take place April 2 at Elk County Catholic.The girls game begins at 4 p.m. while the boys play at 6. A 3-point shooting contest will take place at halftime of both games.Union coach Josh Meeker will be one of the White team's coaches in the girls game. The Damsels' Mariah Winchester will play in the game.In the boys game, Allan Eaton of A-C Valley and Zach Sloan of Moniteau will play for the Blue squad. Trent Corle of Union will play for the White team and the Golden Knights' Karen Davis will be one of its coaches.These games feature 40 of the top senior players in District 9. Eight 1,000-point scorers — including Eaton and Sloan — will be in action.The Kozel Foundation is a nonprofit organization created in 1999 to provide funding for children and youth activity programs.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior guard Jence Rhoads was named second team All-Southeastern Conference by The Associated Press for the second year in a row.Rhoads, a Slippery Rock High graduate, was named first-team All-SEC by its coaches on March 1.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue sophomore guard Kelsey Barlow was suspended for the remainder of the season Tuesday for conduct detrimental to the team.It's a blow for a team that had lost two straight heading into the NCAA tournament.

JUPITER, Fla. — Ian Snell decided to retire at age 29 after the St. Louis Cardinals optioned him to the minors.The former Pirate signed a minor league deal in January after going 0-5 with 6.41 ERA in 12 games for the Seattle Mariners last season. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Snell decided to quit before Tuesday’s spring game against Atlanta.
