Bruin school to stay open 1 more year
KARNS CITY — The Karns City School Board first voted 5-4 Monday night to close Bruin Elementary School this June.
But later in the meeting, board member John Evankovich, Jr. asked for a revote, and he switched his vote. School board member Brenda Ealey also changed her vote to keep the school open.
The board ended up voting 6-3 to keep the school open for next school year and then close it.
Evankovich said he wanted to change his vote because: “I counted 80 people here tonight, and not one of them wanted us to close the Bruin Elementary School.”
The board is having a feasibility study done on what to do with buildings in the district. That study is expected to be completed in May.
