SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team is picked to finish 10th in the 12-team PSAC, based on the preseason coaches poll.
The Rock is coming off a 7-10 season — its best since returning lacrosse to Division II varsity status in 2007 — and returns 10 starters.
SRU's top 10 scorers return as well, highlighted by 51-goal scorer Amy Halls. The junior has 108 goals in her Rock career and needs five to break the school record.
MILWAUKEE — A.J. Hawk's absence from the Green Bay Packers didn't last long.Hawk's agent, Mike McCartney, said Thursday that the linebacker signed a five-year deal with the Packers just one day after he was released in a cost-cutting move.Hawk, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, previously was scheduled to earn $10 million in 2011. When the Packers released him Wednesday, they did so with the hope that they could bring him back at a reduced salary.
