HARRISBURG — The latest defendant in Pennsylvania’s government corruption scandal has been sentenced to five years’ probation.

Patrick Lavelle, a former research analyst for the House Democratic caucus, was sentenced Tuesday by Dauphin County Judge Richard Lewis in Harrisburg for his guilty pleas to one count each of conflict of interest and conspiracy.

Lewis sentenced Lavelle to concurrent five-year terms of county-supervised probation and $5,000 in fines. He also ordered to perform 750 hours of community service and to pay back the $22,000 he received in illegal bonuses for political work done on state time.

The state attorney general’s office has charged 25 people since the investigation nicknamed “bonusgate” opened more than four years ago.

Three were convicted, two were acquitted, seven pleaded guilty and the other 13 are awaiting trial.
