PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers will play eight home football games in coach Todd Graham's first season, including a date with Notre Dame on Sept. 24.

Pitt, also in nonconference play, will travel to Iowa Sept. 17, and welcome Utah to Heinz Field Oct. 15.

The Graham era begins Sept. 3 at home vs. Buffalo, and will feature seven Big East games. They will play at Rutgers, Louisville and West Virginia in conference play. And they will play host to South Florida, UConn, Cincinnati and Syracuse in Pittsburgh.

“This is a very challenging schedule,” Graham said, “but also a schedule that will provide us with great opportunity to achieve special things.”

Pitt went 8-5 (5-2 Big East) last season under former coach Dave Wannstedt.

MARANA, Ariz. — Bubba Watson overpowered two-time champion Geoff Ogilvy Friday and rolled into the quarterfinals of the Match Play Championship with a performance so dominant he has played only 43 holes in three days.Ogilvy had little chance against Watson, who was 7-under par through 13 holes and ended up with a 6-and-4 win. Martin Kaymer of Germany, the No. 2 seed, had to rally against Hunter Mahan to reach the quarterfinals. He was 2 down with six holes remaining.Rickie Fowler, the 22-year-old American who gave Phil Mickelson his worst loss ever in this tournament, made a spirited rally against Matt Kuchar until losing on the 17th hole. The run of 17-year-old Matteo Manassero also ended when Luke Donald built a big lead and closed him out on 16.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The New York Mets acknowledged they received a loan from Major League Baseball to help cover expenses in November.The team said Friday in a statement it expected to have “a short-term liquidity” problem and were helped by the league. The New York Times and Daily News said the amount was $25 million.Mets owner Fred Wilpon and various family members are facing a lawsuit seeking in excess of $300 million in relation to the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme.The Mets announced last month they were looking to sell a noncontrolling interest in the team of 20 to 25 percent to raise several hundred million dollars.<B></B>

SOUTH PARK TWP — Mars junior Allie Misenhelter placed seventh at the WPIAL Class AA Girls Diving Championship at South Park High Friday. with a 316.35.In the boys competition, Mars' Kevin Shebek was 15th while Elliott Woodward was unable to dive due to an illness.

BUTLER TWP — Four members of the Butler High girls bowling team are competing in the Western Pennsylvania Singles Regional this weekend.If any of the four, Brea Suchonic, Heather Paul, Nicole Balk or Autumn Hepler, finish among the top 12, they will advance to the state championship in March.
