BUTLER TWP — Clyde Conti, 59, is the new head football coach at Butler High School.

Conti was the head coach at Slippery Rock High School from 2002-08 and remains a high school teacher there. He led the Rockets to two District 10 titles and consecutive playoff appearances for the only time in the football program’s 45-year history.

He was hired Monday night by the Butler School Board.

A 1969 Freeport High School graduate, Conti has been offensive coordinator for the Yellowjackets the past two seasons.

He has 38 years of coaching experience, including 22 years at Class A Clarion-Limestone in District 9.

Conti becomes the Golden Tornado’s fourth head coach in six years. The program has not had a winning season since 1997 and has endured three winless seasons in the past four years.

Conti succeeds Jim Rankin, who resigned after going 0-9 in his only season at the helm.
