HANDS OF TIME — Human hands are the subject of much of “Transformative Constructs: In Flux,” an exhibit of the work of Slippery Rock University associate professor Jon Shumway, shown through Friday at SRU's Martha Galut Gallery in Maltby Center. SLIPPERY ROCK — “Transformative Constructs: In Flux,” an exhibition featuring art by Slippery Rock University associate professor of art Jon Shumway, will be shown through Friday in SRU’s Martha Gault Gallery in Maltby Center.

Shumway’s work establishes visual metaphors for life’s constant state of change.

The exhibition includes more than 10 black-and-white prints, ceramic forms and black and white videos projected onto walls. Shumway created the pieces while on sabbatical last fall. Many show human hands.

A three-dimensional ceramic form with a video projection was made in collaboration with Ian Thomas, SRU art instructor.

Shumway, who joined SRU in 1998, teaches digital media. Much of his own art is video and explores concepts of time.

Other upcoming exhibits in the Martha Gault Gallery include the Student Juried Exhibition and SRU’s Collection of Japanese Prints.
